Dear Parents/Carers, Our new newsletter can be found here. We hope you find that you have a better understanding of…
Dear Parents and Friends
It is hard to believe that we only have three weeks to go before we break up for the summer holidays, but I have to say each week so far has been packed with activities. Classes have been on science trips, participated in competitions and taken part in a fun filled Colour run last Saturday, courtesy of the PTA.
It’s been an amazing week and the school is still celebrating our fantastic achievements in the Croydon Athletics Championship last week. Children in all year groups have visited West Norwood Library, Y6 went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Wimbledon Theatre, in preparation for their end of year performance. Y5 went to the Pantomime at St Joseph’s College and Y5 poetry finalists visited St Pauls today for the finals of a performance poetry competition. (information to be shared next week).
Croydon Athletics Championship
When I published my newsletter last week, I didn’t have the results of the finals and they certainly were worth waiting for. I am delighted to share that we won 9 gold medals -Halle Y3 sprints, Ezekiel Y3 sprints, Serene Rose Y6 800 metres, Tyler Y6 Long jump, Ella-Jaide Y6 Long jump and the boys relay team – Michael N Y5, Paul Y5, Emmanuel Y6, Aaron Y6 and Tyler Y6.
We took a team of over 30 boys and girls from Y3 to Y6 and they were spectacular. I have to congratulate all the team members for the sportsmanship, fantastic team work and the moral support they gave each other. It has been one of our most successful years for Athletics and a year not to forget. This is all thanks to Mrs Mangan for driving sports and PE at St Joseph’s with total commitment and passion. My thanks to Mrs Mangan, Mrs Burgess and Mr Abrahams for training the children and to all the staff and parents who came down to the Arena to support our heroes. I’m so proud of the whole team you certainly found your brave!
Class Assemblies
1E and 3S led their class Assemblies on the Feast of St Peter and St Paul and they were beautiful. The children all read with confidence, memorising long pieces of text and worked together beautifully to share important information about these two very important saints. They sang a beautiful hymn Pass it on It was such a memorable assembly and Ms Bunyat and Miss Langford Jackson were understandably very proud class teachers.
Colour run – Saturday, 24th June 2023
This event was a big success and well attended by over 150 people. There was a real carnival atmosphere and most people left covered with an array of colours that made a rainbow seem quite dull. My thanks to the PTA for their hard work and to everyone who remained behind to help clear up. It was an enjoyable day and no doubt another annual event to look forward to.
Stay and Play – Every Tuesday in the School Garden Hall/Library
Please pass the word around about the stay and play sessions run by our own parent champions. It started off a year ago with just 3 families and has now extended thanks to our lovely parent helpers. My thanks to all the parents who help and to Ms Fuentes who organised the setting up of this group.
HAF club
I’m pleased to announce that Mrs Stephanie Odewale will be running the HAF club commencing the week beginning 24th July 2023. It’s always a fun filled camp with engaging activities from arts and crafts to dance and music sessions. Please see the attached flyer and do book asap. The flyer gives you information about the booking system and registering for a voucher code.
