At St Joseph’s, our in-house catering team prepares fresh, healthy and delicious food daily for our infants and junior schools.
We work with Relish School Food to design a varied and healthy menu for our children, ensuring that we provide tasty vegetarian options as well as catering for any food allergies or intolerances.
All children in our Infants school are entitled to a free lunch (Universal Infant Free School Meals) whereas, in the Junior school, meals carry a small charge. All children in the Nursery and Infant school are provided with fresh milk and fresh fruit daily, free. Parents pay for meals and other school expenses (including for trips and clubs) through Parentpay.
Unfortunately, due to the significant price increases we are seeing from our suppliers brought on by COVID, Brexit and higher fuel prices, our meal costs will increase from £2.34 per day to £2.50 per day from 1 April 2022 for pupils. Staff/ adult meals will increase from £2.90 to £3.20 per day from 1 April 2022.
All children have the option to have a free breakfast (a bagel or cereal) before school, courtesy of our partnership with the National Breakfast Programme and the charity, Family Action. This is available from 08:30 a.m. for parents and children to sit together in the Infant Hall, have breakfast and perhaps read a book together, before school starts.
We use Relish Pre-Order, which allows parents to choose meals, together with their child, prior to them coming into school, for up to a term in advance. We encourage parents to make it an activity with their children – perhaps choosing meals which are more sustainable or environmentally friendly.
Parents are able to view the menus for the whole term, the recipes for the dishes as well as the ingredients, improving allergy management. This also speeds up registration in the morning if they pre-order your child’s meals.
