Dear Parents and Friends

Congratulations to Mr Abrahams for completing the London Marathon last week.  He was well supported by many people from St Joseph’s, his family and friends.  An incredible achievement and all funds raised will go towards helping  his friend who recently was involved in a life changing incident. It’s not too late to donate and any donation big or small is appreciated. Here is the link:

Mini Marathon heroes

Over twenty of our KS2 pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 competed in the mini Marathon last Saturday in London.  The atmosphere was fantastic and our children were simply amazing, smiling as they ran the course, they certainly did us proud.   My thanks to all the parents, friends and staff who supported the children and especially to Mrs Mangan and Mr Abrahams for promoting the event.  The children were incredibly proud of their achievement and shared about their experience at our Monday Assembly.  I can honestly say they have inspired many other pupils to take part next year.  I believe they will continue the Marathon tradition at St Joseph’s for years to come.

Parent’s Meetings

Thank you to everyone who attended the Parent meetings this week for KS1, KS2 SATS and the structure of classes for children moving into years 1 and 2 in September.  Information regarding a follow up meeting for Reception and year 1 parents will be shared in due course.

Coronation Bake off

I am delighted to announce the St Joseph’s Coronation Bake off to be held on Friday, 5th May.  You are invited to bake and bring your cakes/cookies/bakes into the Junior Hall on Friday morning at 8.45 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the three best bakes and entries will be judged by members from the PTA, and staff. This will be followed by a cake sale after the picnic at the end of the school day.

Coronation Picnic – Friday, 5th May 2023 1.30 p.m. – 3.00 p.m.

To commemorate this historical event, we will be having a picnic on Friday afternoon.

Parents and cares are warmly welcome to attend.  You can bring a picnic to share with your child, weather permitting it will be on the school field.  Please remember we are a NUT FREE ZONE.  If you are unable to attend, children will picnic with their class.  The PTA will be selling refreshments and a selection of memorabilia to commemorate the event.    Please do contact the PTA if you are able to help.

If you are going to join your child/children for the picnic and wish to take other children you will need to ask their parents for permission.  Please complete the following Google form to share if you are attending and/or taking responsibility for other children :  https://forms.gle/bUBvj7akxgYB2n1x5

If you are attending  our picnic please come to the junior playground to collect your child at 1.30 p.m.  Infant and Nursery children must be collected from the external classroom door.  Should you wish to collect other children to join you for the picnic, please ensure they are collected as set out above.  Children must all then return to their classrooms by 3.00 p.m. and will be collected as normal at the end of the school day.

Children whose parents are unable to attend the picnic will celebrate the event with their class teacher. Please send your child into school with their own small snack and a drink for the event (NUT FREE AND NO FIZZY DRINKS).

Nursery & Reception phonic videos

Please do login to your child’s Google Classroom to access videos to support your child with phonics. This is a valuable resource and videos will be uploaded every Friday.  Every parent/carer should have login details.  Do please speak to your class teacher if you have any questions.                                                                                                                                    Ms Allery runs an IT clinic on Wednesday mornings in the Garden Hall from 9.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m.  Please do see her if you have any technical issues accessing Google Classrooms

Industrial Action

Thank you for the support you have shown staff.  I appreciate that it has been difficult but your support and encouragement is valued. School will be closed this Tuesday, 2nd May but will be open to Year 6 pupils.

Uniform

Please ensure all items of uniform are clearly marked with your child’s name and class.  If you discover your child has brought the wrong coat or fleece home, kindly return it as soon as possible.  Please remember that only school uniform coats should be worn.  If you child has to wear earrings, they must be small studs for health and safety reasons.   It is important for all children to wear the correct uniform as it represents our school in the local and wider community.
