‘We are unique and perfect in our own way’

Maths Week – 21.11.22 – 25.11.22
Children have been buzzing with excitement this week and totally engaged in a range of maths activities requiring them to apply reasoning skills, and work collaboratively to find solutions.
It was great to see so many parents/carers join us this week and work with your children. Our Art/Maths workshop was popular and my thanks to Mrs Oliver for running the session. Staff were delighted to have you join them to work on problem solving activities and feedback has been that you would like to have more sessions in the future.

The Puzzle Company spent the day working with year groups across the school. It was brilliant to see everyone so engaged and keen to be involved in more sessions. My thanks to Mrs Gallagher for organising the week and bringing maths to life. It is a key area on our school development plan and our aim is to engage more parents/carers throughout the year. So please do email Mrs Gallagher on [email protected] if you have any suggestions for future sessions.

Class Assemblies
Class 2O/1S led an Advent Assembly to begin the season of Advent. The children were fabulous, they read beautifully and shared information about the importance of each candle and how we can prepare for Christmas in a spiritual way.

Class 3S’ assembly was also on Advent and how we can prepare for the birth of Christ. Children spoke confidently and sang beautifully, helping us to remember the true meaning of Advent.

Monday – 21.11.22 Start of the world cup
Mr Abrahams organised a fun filled day of Maths, English and cross curricular activities linked to the start of the World cup. Older children engaged in discussions around human rights and whether or not the world cup should have been held in Qatar. Other year groups presented their views on why the UK would be a suitable host for future world cups. It was great to see many of you join the children to watch the match.

Children in Need ‘Be Spotacular’ -18th November 2022
Thank you to everyone for helping our Pupil Leaders raise an amazing amount of over £5306.36. £5008.22 was raised on the Website and a further £298.14 was raised through donations made in school.
Prizes were awarded to Oscar King (Infant) and Cara Durie (Juniors) for raising the most in each of the schools and to Ethan Hunte who raised the most overall. Thank you everyone, each of you made a big difference and showed that ‘Together We Can’ make a difference!

Operation Christmas Child
Thank you to everyone that supported the Operation Christmas Child Appeal! We have collected an amazing 70 shoe boxes filled with gifts that will be greatly appreciated by all the children that receive them on Christmas morning. The video clips that we have of children opening these gifts are always very moving and remind us that ‘the gift of giving’ is so very important.

PTA AGM
My thanks to the PTA for organising the PTA AGM on Thursday, 24th November and to those of you who made time to attend and support. It was positive to see many new parents attend as well as those of you who have been part of the school community for a number of years.

I would like to thank the PTA for their generous donation of £16,500 It is going to make a significant difference to the children and the plan is to use it to set up creative areas in both the Infant and Junior playground and improve the Nursery outdoor area. The pupil leaders will meet with pupils to establish their views and their voices will be heard.

It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication on the part of the PTA over the years to raise this money and I would like to thank Donna and all the Committee members, who have served for many years and been so supportive and dedicated to helping raise funds for the school.

I would like to welcome Shannine, who will be the new Chair of the PTA taking over from Donna with a new Committee. I am delighted that the previous Committee have promised to continue supporting the school and working closely with the PTA. I look forward to many future successful events where we continue to work together.

St Joseph’s Football News
The girls Year 5/6 Football Team embarked on not only their first game but their first tournament. They should be incredibly proud of their performance. They came 3rd in their group – winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 2. It was a very impressive display considering it was their first time playing together.
