Dear Parents/Carers,

I am delighted to announce that due to everyone’s hard work, we have received the Science Quality Mark for our high teaching standards in this subject. A lot of hard work has gone into ensuring we achieve this accreditation and I am really proud of Mrs Steen-Plomer for her leadership in this subject. Well done to the whole team! The children will continue to benefit from the superb lessons you teach.

The children enjoyed their 2nd visit from our Athlete Mentor on Tuesday. Every year group explored the concept of ‘respect’ in relation to sport and our children proved once again that they are respectful, kind and can champion others and themselves. Children have been elected to be sports leaders in the school and are receiving training on how to lead structured games at lunch times. Thanks to our PE. Leaders for organising this enriching experience for the children.

This week Miss Melo and myself had a very productive meeting with the Director of Education  for the Portuguese Embassy. The meeting was a large success and resulted in the Embassy agreeing to teach all our KS2 children Portuguese! This will be of great benefit to our children as the Portuguese Embassy has vigorous process of application in Portugal for teachers to qualify to come to England to teach. This means that your child will have high calibre language lessons delivered by a qualified teacher. We are so grateful to the Embassy for all they do for our children and we are looking forward to working even more closely with them in the future.

We had a R.E. Review from the Diocese this week. Receiving feedback about our interactive, engaging lessons and Catholic values in action was heart-warming to us all. The children showcased their knowledge and appreciation of R.E. and their behaviour and learning exhibited why St. Joseph’s is a special place to learn and grow for children and adults alike.

In addition to our science award, the Federation has also be awarded Croydon HAF club of the year for 2023! This means that the school’s holiday club was the best in our Borough this year. We achieved the award due to the nurturing nature, hard work and dedication of our team. Well done to all those involved! This year, the HAF clubs will be ran independently from the school. Ms Stephanie will still be leading the one over the Christmas holidays. The dates are 2nd January to 5th January 2024. Please let her know if you would like a space for your child or more information. Funding is available for those who qualify for Pupil Premium funding. If you are not sure if you qualify, contact he school office who can do a check for you.

We hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Ashley and the St. Joseph’s Team
