Dear Parents/Carers, Our new newsletter can be found here. We hope you find that you have a better understanding of…
Dear Parents and Friends
Our focused week on ‘Journey of hope and dreams’ celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Windrush together with looking at people who have travelled to the UK to start new lives, has been a big success. Children across the school used a variety of short stories and poetry focusing on the Windrush generation as a stimulus for their writing. They have written some beautiful poetry, news articles, historical recounts and diary entries based on characters in texts. Their art work is stunning and work will be displayed in both school halls from next week.
Class Assemblies
Classes 1S, 2J and year 4 brought the story of the Windrush to life in their Assemblies this week. Infant children read their own poetry and the juniors presented historical information and personal accounts of the journey made by so many people. The children clearly enjoyed learning about the Windrush generation and their assemblies were both informative and engaging to watch. Well done children.

St Joseph’s Panathlon
Our Y6 young sports leaders helped run the above event in school on Thursday. Mark Bullock kindly organised the event with the help of Mrs Mangan. Events include: Bean Bag Target , Basketball, Ten Pin
Murray Movement, Flight Path, Boccia Blast and Messi Football. Pupils from years 3 and 4 participated enthusiastically, cheering each other on whilst demonstrating great team work and fantastic skills. There was a great atmosphere, staff enjoyed taking part. My thanks to the Year 3 and 4 team and to Mrs Mangan for co-ordinating the event.
Croydon Athletics competition – Croydon Sports Arena (Monday, Wednesday & finals on Friday)
The boys competed in qualifying heats for track and field events on the Monday, followed by the girls on Wednesday. They were amazing, cheered on by staff, family and friends. Standards were high and competition was fierce, needless to say our children showed their resilience and determination to do well, so characteristic of our children. The finals are after school today, so look out for the results in next week’s newsletters. I am delighted to say that 5 boys and girls qualified for individual events, and the girls and boys relay team went through. This is fantastic. Well done children you’re amazing.
Thank you to Mrs Mangan for organising everything and to Mr Abrahams and Mrs Burgess for supporting her. The children have been cheered on by staff over the three days. We’re really proud of the whole team.
