Dear Parents/Carers, Our new newsletter can be found here. We hope you find that you have a better understanding of…
Dear Parents and Friends
I hope you all had a chance to read my letter sent on Wednesday regarding the appointment of Mrs Danielle Ashley as Headteacher of St Joseph’s from September. There will be a meeting on Monday, 19th June at 8.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. in the Junior Hall to give you a chance to meet Mrs Ashley who is delighted to be joining the school.
Congratulations to Mrs Gallagher on her appointment as Headteacher of St Thomas of Canterbury in Kent. It is a wonderful opportunity for her and I know she will be a great Headteacher.
Mrs Zengin retired last month after thirty years of association with the school, first as a parent, then a volunteer and eventually as a member of staff. Unfortunately, Mrs Zengin has not been well so has not been able to be in school but we are hoping that she will join us at our Thanksgiving Mass so we can say goodbye properly and thank her for her years of service.
Thanksgiving Mass – 12th July 2023 at 1.30 p.m.
This Mass will be at Virgo Fidelis Church and will be offered up for our school community and a chance to celebrate all the wonderful things we have achieved this year. It will also be to mark my retirement. We have invited many past staff, Governors and friends of the school. You are warmly invited to attend.
Invitation to Thanksgiving Mass
2J’s Class Assembly
‘Love means to me when someone cares for you in a pure way and they would not want to hurt you’ Ana
Children delivered a wonderful assembly around the ‘the scared heart of Jesus’ linking it to the feast of Corpus Christi. They presented their art work and shared their thoughts, speaking with confidence about what love means to them and about how much God loves each one of us. They sang the hymn ‘Here I am Lord’ beautifully. Thank you to everyone who attended to support the children.
Y6 residential trip – PGL
The children had a great time, fully engaging in a range of exciting activities, abseiling, survival tasks, archery, raft building and many more. It was good to see them challenging themselves and demonstrating great team work, encouraging each other. It was one of the best residentials I have been on and the children were fabulous, yet again receiving compliments on their manners, good behaviour and general attitude. The coach driver told me he was so impressed with them and that we should be very proud of our school, we definitely are. Well done Y6. My thanks to Mrs Phillips, Mrs Winters, Mrs Lopeman, Mrs Burgess and Mrs Mangan for accompanying the children.
It has certainly been a busy week for them, they’ve been rehearsing for their end of year production ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory’ but still managed to fit in a trip to Chessington world of adventures. They will be going to Wimbledon theatre to see ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory’ and I’m sure will come away with lots of ideas for their own production.

1st Holy Communion Mass celebration
Thank you for joining us to celebrate all the children who made their 1St Holy Communion this year and to Fr James for saying Mass. The children sang beautifully and it was a wonderful celebration with a real sense of community.
It was a moment to cherish and remember for a long time.
Catholic sports day at St James the Great School
Despite the hot weather conditions, the children enthusiastically competed in track and field events, cheering each other on and showing good sportsmanship. Unfortunately, this event clashed with the Y6 trip to Chessington so the team did not have Y6 pupils. So many of the younger children stepped up to take on activities aimed for older pupils and they did it brilliantly. Thank you to all the children for participating with resilience and determination. Yet again, St Joseph’s pupils were outstanding. Unfortunately, we did not win but we couldn’t have been prouder of the children.
Colour run – Saturday, 24th June 2023
This is definitely a school event not to be missed. It is organised by the PTA and is one of the most enjoyable events of the year. It’s open to the school and wider community and was well attended last year, so do not delay and purchase your tickets before they sell out. Colour run ticket link
Message from the PTA
Next week the school will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Windrush. We thought we could add some culture to the Colour Run to represent each individual. Each child will be given a square piece of fabric to take home and decorate, this will then be presented onto bunting and showcased around the school.
The piece of fabric can be decorated to represent something from your child’s culture. It could be their country’s flag or their national dish. Please get involved and return to their class teacher by Monday, 19th June 2023.
A massive thank you to the PTA for giving all the children ice pops today. The perfect end to a fabulous week.
Useful information for parents
Please do add the events on this calendar to your diary. The next few weeks are incredibly busy and I wouldn’t want you to miss key events. The days are flying by so quickly and we only have five weeks left to the end of this term. Please make sure your child comes into school on time and is in school every day. Each day off is lost learning, so let’s aim for at least 98% attendance in every class.
Please see attached flyer for Free ASD Summer Club
Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you at the gate.
