12th May 2023

Dear Parents and Friends

Congratulations to Year 6 on getting through SATS week, we’re very proud of you and the focus and resilience you have all shown. Thank you to all the staff involved in supporting during SATS week and especially to the Year 6 team, Mrs Phillips, Mrs Winters, Mrs Burgess, Mrs Lopeman and Mrs Woodhouse for preparing the children for this week.

Marian Procession – Friday, 12th May

This is always one of our most special celebrations of the school year to commemorate May as the month of Mary.  Thank you for the many donations of flowers which will be donated to I charity.

Father James gave a special blessing and despite the droplets of rain, the children were enthusiastic and in good voice singing hymns to Our Lady. Maria and Osiris crowned Mary with a beautiful garland of flowers.

Mrs Freitas has tea with the Royal family

It’s absolutely true, Mrs Freitas one of our staff, attended a Royal Garden Party last week to celebrate King Charles’ and Queen Carmila’s coronation.  Mr and Mrs Freitas were invited and had the pleasure to meet the King and Queen together with some other famous people.  This was a moment to treasure and I have to say Mrs Freitas was so modest about this privilege.  It is a wonderful reward for her and her husband.

Mrs FreitasThis was like a dream come true to attend a Royal Garden Tea Party.  The Palace gardens were beautiful, everyone was so friendly and welcoming  and the afternoon tea was amazing with so many delicious cakes and pastries.  I will remember it for the rest of my life.

Netball and Football Tournament – Saturday, 13th May 2023 9.00 – 1.00 p.m. (Margaret Roper School, Russell Hill Rd, Purley CR8 2XP)

Mrs Mangan and Mr Abrahams have been practising with our KS2 pupil in preparation for the above tournament.  Good luck to all the children taking part and I look forward to seeing you on Saturday.  Please do come and cheer our children on.  It’s always a great day and the children would love to see you there.

St Joseph’s in bloom

I’m sure you will have noticed the beautiful potted plants and hanging baskets around the school.  This is all down to Mrs Odewale and her many helpers from the afterschool club.  They are simply stunning and brighten up any dreary rainy day.  Thank you, Mrs Odewale and the children, from the afterschool club.

Summer term

Thank you to everyone who supported the PTA at our picnic last week.  They raised almost £500 and that is thanks to your generosity and their hard work.  Do please support them, they always need volunteers and as the saying goes, ‘many hands make lighter work’

Email them on [email protected] if you would like further information and to join them.

The next event to look forward to is ‘The colour run’ on Saturday, 24th June 2023.  It was a big success last year and lots of fun, so don’t miss out and purchase your tickets as soon as they are released to avoid disappointment.  Details to follow before half term

The summer term is always busy and in Summer 2 all the children will be preparing to transition to their new year group in September.  We have scheduled our transition day for Monday, 10th July and children will spend the day with their new class teachers in preparation for September.

We are in the process of trying to arrange a session where you will be able to meet your child’s new class teacher, the date will be confirmed asap.

Important medical notice regarding Epipens

Please see the following messages sent to schools regarding Emerade 300 and 500 microgram adrenaline auto-injector pens (AAIs).

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has issued a recall of Emerade 300 and 500 microgram adrenaline auto-injector pens (AAIs).  This is because some Emerade AAIs might fail to work correctly and may not deliver a dose of adrenaline if they’ve been dropped, though this is very rare.

If your child has  the Emerade brand of AAI, you  should immediately contact your GP to get 2 replacement pens of a different brand – either EpiPen or Jext.   Pens should be replaced as soon as possible. If a pupil suffers an anaphylactic shock and does not receive the correct dose of adrenaline in time, the consequences are potentially fatal.
