Dear Parents/Carers,

What a week it has been for our school.

Our Head Girl and Head Boy have been selected. Congratulations to Alicia and JoJo in Y6 who did remarkable applications. The calibre of applications was very high across the board and our children showed great confidence and character. Taevienne and Malika we’re appointed Deputy Head Boy and Girl as well.

On the first day they got straight to work, by supporting me to find the new caterers for our school. They met with and tasted the food samples from three catering contractors and gave their feedback to a panel of Headteachers, School Business managers and governors from across our Umbrella Trust!  They showcased how wonderful the children are at our school. They represented our school sensibly, reflectively and were extremely articulate when giving their carefully considered feedback. We were so incredibly proud of them all and the panel were impressed by our children.

It was great to see so many of you supporting the school at our Annual Fireworks display on Wednesday. Over 1100 people came to celebrate Bonfire night with us. The children’s faces lit up with joy as they saw our school transformed into what could only be described and a magical pre-Christmas market. I would like to thank our wonderful PTA for all their hard work, especially Katherine and Mrs Standen our school business manager. So much work goes on behind the scenes to make events like this a success and Wednesday was definitely an uplifting evening for all.

Sunday is Remembrance Sunday; we are grateful to all those who have given their life to protect us.  Poppies are available to purchase from the school office. A school display has been created around this. We have included black, purple and white poppies this year. If you would like to learn more about the meaning of the different colours of poppies you could read this article.

On Monday, we celebrated the life of Baby Teddy at Virgo Fidelis Church. Mrs Tope and her family showed great strength and gratitude for the life of their son, now an angel in heaven. Fr James led the Mass and myself and staff members represented our school. Mrs Tope family and school family mourned together and it was heart-warming to see Mrs Fernandes and some parents there too. Please continue to keep Mrs Tope and her family in your prayers. May God strengthen them and they find comfort from the joy he brought to their lives.

Lastly, I have received some wonderful news that our prayers are working and Ava’s treatment is being effective and she may be back in school with us soon. May this positive trajectory continue and God continue to heal and protect her.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Ashley and the St. Joseph’s Team
