For the third year now, we have set up peer mediators in the junior school.
Peer mediation is a way of a pair of children sorting out a friendship issue with 2 other children. Peer Mediators follow a very structured format to do the mediating.
Children are asked to volunteer for the service. They are aware that they will need to use some of their lunch time, but are very willing and extremely keen.
The adults in school are impressed at their ability to sort out low level problems.
We make sure that they are safe. The rules that they keep make sure that everybody in the meeting has respect for everyone present.
The skills learned during Peer Mediation training are skills that are useful for life.
