The above lessons cover the National Curriculum requirements for KS1. Pupils develop fundamental movement skills, becoming increasingly competent and confident. There is a broad range of opportunities Multi skills & team building, athletics, Tri Golf, cricket, gymnastics and dance for them to extend their agility, balance and coordination both individually and with others.

Self- improvement is key to all lessons but they are encourage to compete against others in team building situations through the school house team system. They perform co-operative physical activities in a range of increasingly challenging situations and the most able are selected to participate in inter school competitions in gymnastics, athletics and cricket.

Pupils are taught to master basic movements including running, jumping, hopping, skipping, throwing and catching as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination. They are taught spacial awareness and to respond to instructions increasingly quickly, accurately and safely. These skills are applied and in a range of activities such as participating in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending and performing both gym and dance using simple movement patterns.

Official resources and equipment are used from the National governing body for Golf, Golf Foundation Tri Golf, Gymnastics uses Key Steps/School Games and YST Tops Cards official resources. X Country and athletics refer to official UK Athletics and Kwik Cricket official resources and equipment.

NB. To maximise effectiveness of curriculum map flexibility is desirable. Gym & Dance – indoor sessions. Team building, multi skills, athletic, tri golf & cricket are preferable outside.

The above lessons cover the National Curriculum requirements for Invasion Games using High 5 Netball, Quick Sticks Hockey & Rugby Union official resources and equipment. Net/Wall Games use LTA tennis, Golf Foundation Tri Golf, Kwik Cricket official resources and equipment. Gymnastics uses Key Steps/School Games and YST Tops Cards official resources. Swimming uses the official ASA National Teaching Plan for Swimming. X Country and athletics refer to official UK Athletics and Sportshall Athletics.

The sessions are organised in line with the School Games Competition Calendar. They are arranged so that maximum practise is available to all pupils in preparation for the School Games competition to ensure that the best School Team is put forward – not all children are able to attend OSHL.
