The whole school has had a very reflective and enjoyable week
All year groups (Reception-year 6) with the exception of year 5 (this has been postponed until May) have been on a trip to a place of worship. The Infant school went to our local parish churches of St Matthews, Virgo Fidelis and St Margaret Clitherow. The parish priests explained all about the different areas of the churches and some were taken onto the altar. They looked at the baptismal fonts and the children were able to ask lots of questions. Year 3 went to St George’s Cathedral by public transport, TFL were very supportive and had someone on board to help. The children were guided around the cathedral discussing the different areas and again some children were taken onto the altar and to the baptismal area. They ate lunch in the church hall and enjoyed some sunshine in War Memorial Park. Year 4 went to Westminster Cathedral and had a tour of all the various chapels they especially enjoyed the St Joseph’s Chapel. They were also able to see many of the London tourist highlights including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. Year 6 along with Father Anthony went to Aylesford Priory which is run by the Carmalite Friars and spent a day of prayer and reflection. They went on a tour which gave them an historical insight into life at the priory. They were able to celebrate Mass where they led the local congregation in the bidding prayers. There was just time to enjoy the Peace Garden and the Rosary Walk before returning to school on the minibuses.
We have celebrated St Joseph’s Day with special assemblies in both schools where the children shared their gifts for St Joseph. Please have a look at some more photographs on the gallery page.
