London’s biggest ever tree planting weekend

On Friday some of our children took part in London’s biggest ever tree planting weekend which was organised by the Mayor of London in association with the London Wildlife Trust, who are working with Lambeth Council to plant 1350 young native trees to from a hedge and an area of woodland in Norwood Park.  The trees will benefit wildlife as well as reducing air pollution and flood risk. The project is also part of London Wildlife Trust’s Great North Wood project which is working to conserve the remaining fragments of a huge wooded landscape that once covered south London. By planting a new mini-woodland in the park we hope to create a stepping stone to help link up other local woodlands and allow wildlife to travel between them.
