October is Black History Month
St. Joseph’s Year 5 pupils visited Age UK Croydon as part of their learning about Black History Month. They listened to a lady from Jamaica telling her struggle when she came to this country. She came to see her husband who had already arrived looking for work. Our children dressed up in Period costumes from the 1940’s and 50’s and acted out her journey on the boat travelling from Jamaica.
The people of the community at Age UK gave the children snacks and kindly donated a book to the School. The children learned a lot and had a great time. Thank you to everyone there for making them feel welcome and for the lovely comments about our children, they were a real credit to the school in the way they participated and behaved.
